ग़ज़ल् ४४

घर् यॆः उम्मीद् के तो मोम् के बन्‌ते हैँ जी
सुब्ह् ख़्व़ुर्शीद् निकल्‌ते ही पिघल्‌ते हैँ जी

जब् भी सूरज् की कड़ी धूप् से उड़्‌ता है ख़ुमार्
सू-ए मय्-ख़ानः सर्-ए शाम् निकल्‌ते हैँ जी

एक् सूरज् की किरन् से सभी गुल्-हा-ए चमन्
और् तबस्सुम् से तेरे हम भी निखर्‌ते हैँ जी

बस् यॆः ऽआशिक़् हैँ जो क़द्‌मोँ मेँ गिरे रह्ते हैँ
ठोक्‌रेँ खाके ही कुछ् लोग् सँभल्‌ते हैँ जी !

एक "मूसा" ही ज़माने मेँ हुआ क्योँ मश्हूर् ?
देख् के हुस्न-ए जुदा हम् भी मचल्‌ते हैँ जी

मोम् = wax.
ख़्व़ुर्शीद् = the Sun.
पिघल्‌ना = to melt, to dissolve; to yield, give way.
ख़ुमार् = intoxication; hang-over; languor.
सू = side, direction; towards, in the direction (of).
सू-ए मय्-ख़ानः = towards the tavern.
सर्-ए शाम् = evening; early in the evening.
गुल्-हा-ए चमन् = roses of the garden. (गुल्-हा = roses. चमन् = flower-bed; flower-garden.)
तबस्सुम् = smile.
मूसा = Moses. (As the story goes, he gazed upon god's brilliance - which is always a metaphor for beauty - and fainted.)
हुस्न = goodness; beauty.
जुदा = distinct; extraordinary.
मचल्‌ना = to be wayward, to be disobedient, to sulk.

ग़ज़ल् ४३ (सदा एक् "ऎन्जनीयर्" की)

"हम् हैँ मताऽ-ए कूचः-ओ बाज़ार् की तरह्" *
हर् "मैनॆजर्" यहाँ है ख़रीदार् की तरह्

"प़्रौडक्ट्" , "प़्रोग्रैम्" बदल् कर् नए हुए
हम् थम् गए मगर् , दिल्-ए बीमार् की तरह्

गो साल् दूस्रा है , पॆ ऽआलम् रहा वही
जक्‌ड़े गऐ हैँ फिर् से गुनॆह्‌गार् की तरह्

हर् दिन् "बना बना के" परेशान् कर् दिया !
गोया-कि हम् होँ गेसू-ए दिल्‌दार् की तरह्

"रौशन्" , तेरी क़सम् कि दम् आया है नाक् मेँ !
रोज़ी गले पड़ी रसन्-ओ दार् की तरह्

* यॆः मिस्‌राऽ मज्रूह् सुल्तान्‌पूरी का है । दर्ज्-ए बाला ग़ज़ल् मज्रूह् साहिब् की उसी ग़ज़ल् की ज़मीन् मेँ कही गई है ।

मताऽ = merchandise; goods.
कूचः = narrow street, lane.
गो = even if, although; notwithstanding that.
ऽआलम् = the world; age, time; condition, circumstances.
किसी को बनाना = (idiom.) to hoodwink someone.
परेशान् = dishevelled, tossed (as hair); troubled, distressed.
गोया-कि = as though.
गेसू = the hair of a woman's head.
दिल्‌दार् = a lover, mistress, sweetheart.
नाक् मेँ दम् आना = (lit.) "the breath to come to one's nostrils", (idiom.) to be greatly worried or harassed.
रोज़ी = daily work, employment, means of subsistence.
गले पड़्‌ना = to fall on the neck (of); to hang upon (in entreaty or enforcement); to be a load.
रसन् = rope, cord.
दार् = gallows; impaling stake.
रसन्-ओ दार् = noose and the gallows.

ग़ज़ल् ४२

यूँ भी थे गर्दिश्-ए अय्याम् के मारे हुए लोग्
ख़ाक् मेँ और भी रौँदे गए हारे हुए लोग्

सर्-गराँ भी हुए हैँ "सुब्ह् की तारीकी" मेँ
शब् , ब-नूर्-ए मय्-ए ना-याब् , गुज़ारे हुए लोग् *

रस्म्-ए दुन्या है यही और् यही दुन्या-दारी
हम् तुम्हारे न हुए थे कि हमारे हुए लोग्

आग् मेँ जल्‌के उन्हेँ ख़ाक् ही बन्‌ना होगा
फिर् के आते नहीँ पर्-लोक् सिधारे हुए लोग्

कौन् हैँ मह्रम्-ए इस्रार्-ए ख़्व़ुदी दह्र् मेँ , जुज़्
अप्‌नी तद्बीर् से तक़्दीर् सँवारे हुए लोग्

कम् ही मिल्‌ते हैँ मगर् ज़ह्न्-निशीँ रह्‌ते हैँ
दिल् की राहोँ से रग्-ए जाँ मेँ उतारे हुए लोग्

छोड़् दो अब् सर्-ए बाज़ार् यॆः तज़्लील् उस्‌की
कुछ् तो "रौशन्" के तरफ़्दार् भी , बारे , हुए लोग्

* "सुब्ह् की तारीकी" का इस्तॆऽआरः, बल्किः वॊः पूरा शॆऽर्, डौ. ऽअली मीनाई की ग़ज़ल् "सो गए थक्‌के ग़म्-ए ज़ीस्त् के मारे हुए लोग्" के एक् शॆऽर् से निस्बत् रख्‌ता है.

गर्दिश्-ए अय्याम् = vicissitudes of time.
ख़ाक् = dust, earth; ashes; nothing whatever.
रौँद्‌ना = to tread down; to crush.
सर्-गराँ = head heavy with hangover; proud.
तारीकी = darkness.
शब् = night.
ब-नूर्-ए मय्-ए ना-याब् = with the illumination of rare wine.
रस्म् = custom, practice.
दुन्या-दारी = worldly affairs.
पर्-लोक् सिधार्-ना = to depart this world for the next.
मह्रम्-ए इस्रार्-ए ख़्व़ुदी = confidante of the mysteries of the self.
दह्र् = time; world.
जुज़् = other than.
तद्बीर् = forethought; plan; skill.
तक़्दीर् = divine decree; fate.
सँवार्-ना = to construct; to adorn; to rectify, improve.
ज़ह्न्-निशीँ = fixed/impressed in the mind.
रग् = artery, fibre.
सर्-ए बाज़ार् = in the public square.
तज़्लील् = humiliation.
तरफ़्दार् = partisan; follower.
बारे = once, all at once; at last.
