ग़ज़ल् ४५

"रौशन्" ने यहाँ जश्न्-ए चराग़ाँ नहीँ देखा
शब्‌नम् को रुख़्-ए गुल् पॆ फ़ुरोज़ाँ नहीँ देखा

ज़ुल्फ़ोँ को तेरी किस् ने परेशाँ नहीँ देखा
फिर् तुझ् पॆ फ़िदा हो न , वॊ इन्साँ नहीँ देखा

आए हैँ नज़र् सह्‌न्-ए गुलिस्ताँ मेँ कई रंग्
पर् तुझ् सा कोई रश्क्-ए बहाराँ नहीँ देखा

सद्‌योँ से हूँ इक् रिश्तः-ए उम्मीद् पॆ क़ाइम्
उन् को मगर् इस् तर्ह् गुरेजाँ नहीँ देखा !

यूँ वर्नः भटक्‌ता न बयाबाँ मेँ वॊ , यारो !
"मज्‌नूँ" ने मेरा चाक्-गिरीबाँ नहीँ देखा

गो ऽऐब् हैँ तुझ् मेँ कई , इस् बज़्म्-ए सुख़न् मेँ
"रौशन्" तेरी टक्कर् का ग़ज़ल्-ख़्व़ाँ नहीँ देखा



जश्न्-ए चराग़ाँ = festive assembly of lamps.
शब्‌नम् = dew.
रुख़्-ए गुल् = face/cheek of rose.
फ़ुरोज़ाँ = shining, resplendent.
परेशाँ = scattered; disordered; dishevelled.
फ़िदा होना = to be devoted, to be sacrificed.
सह्‌न्-ए गुलिस्ताँ = rose garden.
रश्क्-ए बहाराँ = envy of spring season(s).
रिश्तः-ए उम्मीद् = thread of hope.
क़ाइम् = steadfast; persevering.
गुरेजाँ = fleeing; avoiding, shunning.
वर्नः = otherwise, or else.
बयाबाँ = desert, wilderness.
चाक्-गिरीबाँ = rent collar (fig. slit neck).
गो = although, notwithstanding that.
ऽऐब् = defect(s).
बज़्म्-ए सुख़न् = (lit.) assembly of discourse, (idm.) a literary gathering.
ग़ज़ल्-ख़्व़ाँ = Ghazal reciter.

ग़ज़ल् ४४

घर् यॆः उम्मीद् के तो मोम् के बन्‌ते हैँ जी
सुब्ह् ख़्व़ुर्शीद् निकल्‌ते ही पिघल्‌ते हैँ जी

जब् भी सूरज् की कड़ी धूप् से उड़्‌ता है ख़ुमार्
सू-ए मय्-ख़ानः सर्-ए शाम् निकल्‌ते हैँ जी

एक् सूरज् की किरन् से सभी गुल्-हा-ए चमन्
और् तबस्सुम् से तेरे हम भी निखर्‌ते हैँ जी

बस् यॆः ऽआशिक़् हैँ जो क़द्‌मोँ मेँ गिरे रह्ते हैँ
ठोक्‌रेँ खाके ही कुछ् लोग् सँभल्‌ते हैँ जी !

एक "मूसा" ही ज़माने मेँ हुआ क्योँ मश्हूर् ?
देख् के हुस्न-ए जुदा हम् भी मचल्‌ते हैँ जी



मोम् = wax.
ख़्व़ुर्शीद् = the Sun.
पिघल्‌ना = to melt, to dissolve; to yield, give way.
ख़ुमार् = intoxication; hang-over; languor.
सू = side, direction; towards, in the direction (of).
सू-ए मय्-ख़ानः = towards the tavern.
सर्-ए शाम् = evening; early in the evening.
गुल्-हा-ए चमन् = roses of the garden. (गुल्-हा = roses. चमन् = flower-bed; flower-garden.)
तबस्सुम् = smile.
मूसा = Moses. (As the story goes, he gazed upon god's brilliance - which is always a metaphor for beauty - and fainted.)
हुस्न = goodness; beauty.
जुदा = distinct; extraordinary.
मचल्‌ना = to be wayward, to be disobedient, to sulk.
